Margarita on the rocks? Why not?

Servings: 1 Total Time: 5 mins Difficulty: Beginner
Try to master one of the most famous summer cocktails. This margarita is perfectly balanced in flavour, not too sweet, not too tangy, not too salty.

In my opinion, this version is the tried-and-true recipe for the best Margarita I have ever tried. Perfect for pairing with nachos/salsa and good conversation. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Syrup

Cocktail

Instructions

  1. Prepare the syrup: combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.

You can prepare syrup for a few doses in advance. Pour it into a clean jar and seal with a tight-fitting lid; store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
  2. Rim a rocks glass with salt: sprinkle plenty of salt on a plate, rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge and turn the glass upside down on the plate so that the salt sticks to the rim.

Try pink Himalayan salt for extra aromas.
  3. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and shake until well-chilled.

  4. Strain into the rocks glass over fresh ice.

  5. Garnish with lime wedge.

Notes

The history of the margarita is shrouded in mystery and folklore due to its numerous origin stories. I prefer this one: the cocktail was invented in 1938 by a bartender in honour of a Mexican showgirl Rita de la Rosa. Also... "margarita" is Greek for "daisy flower".
