Nothing says summer quite like a glass of homemade lemonade. This refreshing drink combines freshly squeezed lemons, chilled water, and just the right touch of sweetness to create a crisp, citrusy flavour that’s perfect for warm days. Served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime or lemon, this simple yet delicious lemonade is the ultimate thirst-quencher for garden gatherings, family meals, or relaxing afternoons in the sun. Enjoy!
Heat the water, sugar and lemon peels in a saucepan until it comes to a boil, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
Boil for 2 minutes without stirring, timing from the moment it starts boiling. Allow to cool completely.
Squeeze the lemons. Add the lemon juice to the cooled syrup and stir until combined.
Strain the lemon/syrup mixture, pour it into an 1 litre bottle, and store it in the refrigerator for 2–3 months.
To serve: Fill a glass 1/3 full with lemonade and top it off with 2/3 ice-cold water, either still or sparkling. Stir with a spoon and add a few ice cubes.
Garnish with some fresh mint leaves and/or a wedge of lemon or lime.
To make it spicier, add a piece of ginger root.
