Hi! I’m so happy you’re here!
I am an amateur lover of cooking. So many memories, beautiful moments and unique pleasures in my life take place around the table, especially when I am surrounded by people I love.
This “homemade” blog is the outcome of creating in my kitchen with recipes that I have been collecting for the last 20 years and I want to share with you.
You may find also suggestions for food and cooking tools that I discover when I visit the Athens market or on my travels in Greece and around the world.
I have countless recipes! Many of them come from my grandmothers and my beloved mom who taught me the secrets of the Greek cuisine. In addition, through the cultural path of gastronomy I managed to try flavors from around the world and look for their recipes. So you will find also recipes from all over the world with an emphasis on Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisine.
Everything is a source of inspiration for me. Magazines, a TV show, an interview with a chef, contact with anyone who creates masterpieces in a kitchen. Because in the end, cooking is a way of social contact that brings people closer and fills them with satisfaction in all their senses. Someone said that “great food and a bright smile can conquer the world”. Also when you are baking or cooking, it can be a stress reliever because you are using all five of your senses.
In Greece we say that “love passes through the stomach”. I absolutely believe it. My partner, (who is also my ultimate judge in everything I cook and rates me each time fairly but also strictly), has told me many times that one of the most important reasons he considers me unique to him is our wonderful gastronomic experiences. A meal prepared with care and love is an opportunity to have a good time even at the end of a difficult day, offering both relaxation and good mood and thus forming strong bonds.
How did I get into cooking? I think I thought it was an extension of my main profession related to Chemistry. Anyone who loves Chemistry wants to experiment with new substances and preparations, an implementation of which is of course cooking. I was not the best cook in the world from the beginning (nor am I yet) but every time I tried and saw that there was improvement it was a trigger for me to go further.
Important Tips:
- There is always room for improvement.
- The more time you spend preparing a course, the better. (Isn’t generally the case in our lives?). When preparing a course you need to keep it in mind constantly and it will reward you with its taste.
- The quality of ingredients plays a big role in the overall success.
- Do taste your food while cooking. Don’t wait until the end and hope for the best.
Many wonder if cooking fits a healthy lifestyle. The question is often reasonable for someone having pictures of chefs with big bellies roaming the kitchens of the world. Nevertheless, good nutrition does not mean tasteless food. I am very happy watching the new generation of chefs who, in addition to their unique skills in the kitchen, have invested heavily in their personal profile and way of life. In my case, a balanced nutrition is very important. I train almost every day, I am a distance runner and for this reason I try my best to enrich my cooking with light and healthy recipes. Besides I believe that almost any recipe can be made healthy!
My blog is my first serious attempt to contact you. It has been totally self-made thanks to WordPress and Delicious Recipes. Each of my posts has been created exclusively by me without any sophistication! All recipes have been tested in my small, cozy, yellow kitchen, meals have been served using my favorite V&B dishware, photos have been taken using my Samsung mobile. I usually cook for two. For this, expect to see small quantities of ingredients in my recipes… but you can customize them!
I am anxiously waiting for your ratings, suggestions and comments. Also please be free to contact me through email for any questions you may have. I would like you to know that it is a principle for me to maintain authenticity, honesty and a low profile because I am just one of you, an amateur chef!
My awesome kitty always stands by me when I cook and rubs on my feet happy. Her name is Kallisti, which in Greek means “the most beautiful”. She is my SUPERPOWER!
